Creation of the/a Universe

It was hot, in the beginning.
You couldn’t imagine. All the heat in the universe, packed into something so small you couldn’t even see it.
But, oh, give it a second and it’s bigger than you can comprehend.
Give it a second.
Time.
It made time. Do you understand?
It made time. Time did not exist before it.
Give it a little longer, and you’ll have stardust.
Gas, swirling and swirling—
and gravity
—the weakest force in the universe
weakest! can you imagine
gravity pulls the gas together into lumps and
*snap*
It’s incandescent.

We were bright, in the beginning.
I couldn’t imagine. All our light, packed into a moment so small I could barely feel it.
But, oh, I gave it a second and it was greater than my body could hold.
I gave it a second.
Time.
You made time. Do you understand?
You made time. Time did not exist before you.
I give it a little longer, and we have memories.
Days, swirling and swirling—
and love
—the strongest force in my universe
strongest! can you imagine
love pulls our days together into a future and
*snap*
We’re incandescent.

O, Heliades, your tears flow once more down your poplar bark ragged,
Cries hushed forever below the brown wood of your transformèd eyes.
Phaethon, your brother, lies cold in the tomb ringèd round by your thicket,
