Daydreams

Somewhere in a far off future, I am

                dancing

                                twirling

                                               singing

Maybe in a karaoke bar

Where the lights are orange orbs

And neon tequila signs

As you say

              “ I love you ”

And mean it in every sense of the word.

I spin over to you

A hurricane of hand-stitched fabric

And you dip me

Low, in a flourish

So that I know

It is from the depths of your heart

That you feel that strange pulsing too.

Maybe I will be wearing pink

Or mauve or bright sunflower yellow

Or any one of those colors

I could not bring myself to wear today.

You will smile

               heavenly

And I will know

That I have done everything right

Because I am there with you.

  • Kites

When I was five, I remember running across an open field on some warm summer day. We were flying kites, and I chased the one shaped like a bird, imagining I was flying right with it.

The wind brushed across her cheeks, tender. It fluttered her hair and made it stand upright, soft, as the sun caressed its fingers across her arm, both warm and compassionate.
