Do you ever think about me?
Do you think about how we sat at volleyball games
And you would whisper in my ear?
I remember what you said quite well: was it
"Wanna get out of here?"
You were seductive about it. Your breath
Like a warm summer breeze
Sweeping over my face, getting into
My brain with ease.
Do you ever think about me?
Do you think about how we used to spar
And I would take you right to the ground?
I do recall staring into your melted-chocolate eyes,
And then looking away as if I was afraid I'd drown.
It wasn't like you didn't do the same thing, of course.
We would both sit there, gasps
Coming from both of us from the exhaustion of the fight,
Getting lost in each other's eyes with no need of a map.
Do you ever think about me?
Do you think about how we read poetry to each other
One winter day in the English classroom?
Or how our English teacher conveniently left us alone
To read line by line, inventing our impending doom?
I remember catching on one particular phrase
(you caught on the phrase. I was fine)
And you bit your lip and gave me a side-eye
And then swallowed and finished the line?
Do you ever think about me?
Do you think about that festival in the top of a building
Where we lay crashed against the wall?
We were very nearly drunk with exhaustion
And the taste of Indian spices wafting through the hall.
I told you, "you're a great friend, for being here
With me through this. I mean, this is some shit."
And you laughed and said, "Did I ever
Have a choice in being with you? I'm here for it."
Do you ever think about me?
Do you think about how much we confided in one another
Your lips brushing my ear with the secrets we told?
You were so beautiful when you smiled,
Even though it was rare when you did, so I bought what I was sold.
You wrapped your coat around me, and
The world said it was "just girls being girls."
Compulsory heterosexuality is a shady bitch, and you know it.
I just have to wonder, whether you're out or not—did you ever think about me?
Did you ever think about us?
Do you think about how we sat at volleyball games
And you would whisper in my ear?
I remember what you said quite well: was it
"Wanna get out of here?"
