Doubt

Distrust can be scary when
it takes you by surprise
and you don’t know it’s there.

It doesn’t matter how long
I’ve known you, or how stable
you’ve been in the past.

One false move and
the damage is done,
the trust is gone.

It may seem unfair
but that’s the way it is,
it’s too scary otherwise.

You may think it’s easy
to get rid of doubt,
to look for forgiveness.

It will never be
that easy with me
and it will never be the same.
