Drowning

I was drowning
The water filled my mouth
Leaving a taste
So bitter and sharp
It stayed forever

My eyes were dull
And I felt a pain in my throat
I wanted to give up
For the waters to take me
To another place
Another time

What did you see in me
In that moment
When I needed someone
What did you see
In my eyes

What I see in yours
The same in mine
As deep inside
We're still the same
And your eyes
Still match
The color of your
Soul

    yesterday
to you i was nine years old
    with a black hurley hat
    that never left my head
the hat that you would take
and try to hold it far above
my reach knowing i could never get it

    Summer nights

    Taste of sweet smoke

    Laughter and kindness

    The generosity of strangers

    The hopes of tomorrow

And the struggles of a past day
