I’m scared.
I’m scared
When I think about
What is going to happen to us.
Will it be centuries?
Or decades?
Or years?
Our world
Is changing,
And those changes
Are not invisible.
I see it
Everywhere.
And you would see it, too
If you chose too.
It’s flooding in winter
Scorching in summer
And autumn and spring are so unpredictable
That it’s impossible to know
What kind of weather
The next day will bring.
Plants are dying
Animals are dying
People are dying
And if we don’t stop
And take a step back
And look around
And realize what we’ve done . . .
Then we’re all going to die.
I know
It’s depressing
And horrifying
And heartbreaking.
But we need to admit
To ourselves
And to our world
That we are DESTROYING OUR PLANET.
And we don’t
Even deserve
To call it ours.
Unless
We try harder
To stop the ice from melting
To stop polluting the oceans
To stop dropping trash on the ground because we’re too lazy to walk two steps to a trash can.
No
Trying is not enough.
We’ve been trying
For centuries.
We have to actually
Do something.
Or else
We will be trapped
In this beautiful, gruesome world
As it shatters
Sending pieces raining down
Around us.
So
Tell your friends
Spread the word
Do instead of try
Because
Earth is dying.
