The Effort

The journey of change must end.

The arduous climb to the top

For a cause left unspoken.

Our hearts craved the triumph.

That was so close,

Our fingertips brush the satisfaction of achieving,

Believing.

Oh, to think of something so triumphant,

So fulfilling.

The facade of our world crumbles

We were so close.

Paper signs lay limp on the concrete.

Desire for the prize overtook our minds,

Yet the price of our opinions had cost our lives.

Our efforts won’t die off.

For another will help carry the weight of our ambition.

Knuckles white with frustration,

Tears streaked red with screams into the world

that end in a whisper into their ears.

A whisper that cradles hope.

The hope that ensures a new beginning.

Our efforts seemed forgotten,

almost blown away by the crisp air,

"But our work goes on,

The cause endures,

The hope still lives,

And the dream shall never die."

The Real "Greatest of all Time"

A year ago, if you had asked me,

"Who is the greatest of all time?"

I would've claimed it was a soccer player or a surfer.

lying down on the rocky ground of western Colorado

and looking up at what the vast darkness of the unknown has granted us tonight

an ache fills my lungs as my eyes take in the beauty of the millions of lights dotting the sky

I stare out into the blues and greens of the Atlantic,

My fingers press into the sand as I sit in silence

I feel time pass slowly, an ache that eats at my soul,

And I realize there isn't much left of summer
