Have you ever imagined growing up to be a star?
Singing, dancing, posing in front of a car?
The cameras flashing everywhere you go.
Being watched as if you were a show.
Go put on your makeup; it will make you look better.
Why don’t we just go back to sending by letter?
Crying on the floor because people see you as dumb.
Receiving comments that make you feel numb.
You think you will turn out like everyone believes,
But in reality, they are the thieves.
They tell you to look like this and that,
But really they just want something to look at.
You may see yourself as a star,
But others don’t see you making it that far.
You may feel ever so free,
But it turns out that you may never flee.
This media then takes a wild turn.
The exit says, “No point of return.”
People are calling you names and say you look bad.
You are just focused on if you should wear plaid.
Would other people like my story,
Or would they say it is not fit for glory?
I am too young to figure this out.
Why don’t people just stop looking for clout?
The cameras keep flashing and flashing.
You scream and start crashing.
Your face to the floor,
But you don’t want to look anymore.
Posting photos of who you were before.
Receiving comments that hurt your core.
The tea kettle is filled.
Other viewers are thrilled.
Lies and comments are on your story.
People are invading your territory.
Oh, how others are so carefree.
While you realize what social media is meant to be.
Everyone is laughing at your little jokes.
When you realize social media is a little hoax.
The hoax may be said to be done,
But in reality, it has just begun.
Comments and videos all around.
They have stolen your crown.
Photos that were never meant to be seen.
Crying on the floor, I’m only sixteen.
Messages and videos being sent around.
Social media is a little playground.
Girls and boys, come to play.
Dirty lies at bay. Secrets, the prey.
Girls and boys, may this be your dismay.
Be ready for the drama coming your way.
