Friday The 13th

It was a Friday,
At basketball practice after school,
During a water break,
Someone mentioned an epidemic,
Becoming a pandemic by the minute,
We laughed,
It could never reach us,
It only affected those who are older,
So we still played,
Shoulder to shoulder,
No masks,
No filters,
Just our breath,
Floating around us,
It was the 13th,
Friday the 13th,
The unlucky day,
In so many ways.

Two days later,
We got the email,
And now we know,
What we said and did that day was unbelievable.
