One day
I crocheted a hat
I don’t really know
Why
or
When
But the hat became
A constant companion.
Worn nearly every day.
A purple and blue beanie.
Reappearing in many pictures over
2 years.
Through meeting new friends
Spontaneously
Cutting my own hair.
Spending time with friends and family
On New Years Eve.
Wearing that too big hat
I felt
Safe.
One day
The hat wound up in a closet.
With some other hats.
A time capsule
2 years
Of memories
Of stories.
Not completely forgotten.
In the closet in my room.

I feel like accessories, distinct from larger garments we wear less frequently, can express so much about our personalities. It sounds like this hat you made meant a great deal to you at one time, and saw much of your life through its non-seeing eyes as it lived atop your head in a hundred different social settings. Even if you no longer wear it, you should hang on to it for sentimental reasons or to pass on to a loved one some day, especially because it's an expression of your creativity/handiwork!
