Hip Replacement

We were always together, 

“Joined at the hip” people would say. 
And we only got closer. 

It was like our souls had merged together
And our hearts were one and the same. 

When we decided to leave together no one was surprised, 
It was expected that we would always be together. 

We went to your family’s cabin,
And that was where it all fell apart. 

It was in the pale yellow light that we split,
It was in the tiny lights that my soul cracked and broke, 
It was at the edge of the cabin that I lost you. 

The tiny lights framed our faces and broke our hearts.
