Homecoming

Snow melts, ice cracks.

Winter’s hands let go; relax.

So run, and feel the gentle breeze on your face

Find a sunbeam to stand in, and grin from ear to ear.

Let the strangers on the sidewalk part around you, softly

Watch their shadows on the concrete growing slowly longer,

And dream about the rain that’s yet to come

If it was December they might judge you, they could

Sneer as you stand still–

Well, thankfully it’s April,

And so instead everyone just flows,

Smooth as the salmon in their rushing stream

Smiling at one another in the light,

That which we forgot in winter

Remerges with the defrosting of spring;

Some may call it rebirth, but for me?

It has always felt more like a homecoming.
