How

How do we live

Knowing others cannot?

How do we breathe

Knowing our comfort is at the hands of hidden devastation?

How do we laugh

when all around us Tears seem to be the only logical response?

When Tears tear our hearts

When Embraces brace for the cold

When our feet touch the ground and our delicate fingers bond with other fists rising

When we choose Joy over curling up on the floor and Sobbing

and when we curl up on the floor and Sob

How do we see God’s hands

How do we feel held?

How do we hold each other

when we live where living isn’t legal

    Droplets

Shattered dreams run with the tears of rain

down the car’s windows excruciating life

    Rampaging noise smearing my skull

    Screams tear my shredded heart

Fractured stained pieces searching for a sun

    Rebuild

    fallen ashes, soot-covered letters
    little bullets fly through
    stained missing pieces

    slices through
    throat tightens
    swirling, racing, losing hope

gently, seeds fold into the ground
    peace lilies blooming
