In wrapping your arms around someone,
you're getting a hug, too.
In giving someone else advice,
you're telling yourself what you need to hear.
In writing someone a story or a poem,
the words will fill your heart as well as their's.
In pointing out to someone the twinkling stars,
your eyes, too, will be filled with them.
In all the love you pour into the hearts of others,
the holes in their hope will let drops drizzle
into your own.
I’m learning that one letter
Can make all the difference;
One letter, or
The lack thereof
Could burn down a dream or
There is nothing wrong with
wearing ribbons in your hair and
twirling in your plaid uniform skirt and
dressing like a tomboy sometimes and
refusing to let anyone tell you not to
wear your heart on your sleeve;
And yes,
you deserve one: you
who has stars in your eyes and
infinity running through your veins;
you, whose heart becomes so heavy
