I rode down your street

I rode

Down your street

The other day.

It’s always

Going to be

Your street,

Even though

You’re trying to pull yourself

Out of here

And into somewhere else

(and doing

A good job).

I glanced down

The bank

At the culvert

And memories flood back

And echo through my head

Like we’re back

Standing in that dark tunnel.

Your sandbox

Is still in your yard

And your house

Is still yellow.

These facts

Make me happy.

I bet

90% of you

Doesn’t care.

The TV neighbors

Seem perfectly nice

To me

And my now-rational brain

But I’ll always believe you

And the you that told me

They were mean

And stayed up late

Every night.

What if

Someday

That’s you?

Your grandparents

Are still there

And I now know

The inside of their house

Because of my mom,

Not from when we

Were best friends.

Earth

Is a planet

Full of chaos

And destruction

And litter.

But I hope

That if we ever blow up

And our pieces drift into deep-space

Mars misses Earth.

I miss Earth.
