Immigrants

They came to this country

Seeking a better life.

They started

With a suitcase and

A one-way ticket.

They said goodbye to

Their friends

Their family

Their home.

When they finally arrived,

It was their hope that

Drove them forward.

They were young, free.

In a place where they didn’t

Know anyone.

Where no one knew them.

On sleepless nights, they cried.

Held photos of their loved ones.

Day by day, step by step,

They grew themselves

Stronger

Happier.

Because, nothing is impossible

In America.

But…

Even many years later,

They still feel torn between

Their home, and the land

That sets them free.
