is pride month
a month to live authentically
out loud
proud
the streets are full of color and
the world is a party

but pride month is so much more
it is a celebration of our
rich and radical history
a history of strength,
of intersectionality,
of art and of beauty

much of our history is lost in translation
how can we remember
a history we never learned?
for pride month is not about 
celebration or support
june serves as a reminder of
those who came before us

our history is one of
violence and
controversy and
resilience
and we are ignorant to
forget that

we do not fill the streets
in the name of celebration
we fill the streets because
our fight is not over
and we must pay tribute to our ancestors
