Last Night’s Nightmare

His feet smacked across the pavement, staining his white pants with mud from tomorrow's rain. He wished he had a breath to catch, but it seemed everything that had made him human had slipped through his fingers. It was such a strange surreal feeling. A foggy fear, that felt less and less real with each passing second. The streets were a maze, surrounded by towering stone walls. Though his mind was too fuzzy to really think about where he was going. And the longer he ran the more paralysing and quiet his panic got. He rushed aimlessly down another side street, only to come face to face with a dead end. He cried, he wasn’t really sure why, he just had a feeling it was what he was supposed to do. Smiling as the tears froze on his face. The world sounded muffled as if underwater. And he fell to his knees without a sound. His mind empty of all thoughts. But the tears, they were something. The setting sun filled the sky with flecks of darkness. Ever moving flecks. He rested his head on his elbow. Hoping one day the pavement would hurt his face, and watched as the flecks swarmed him. Darkness drawing nearer. Flecks clumping so close together that he couldn’t see the sun pouring through. One fell gently on his face like a snowflake, burning the flesh in an instant. The smell reminded him of Mother’s chicken soup and he almost laughed. After the first fleck they fell onto him almost all at once, making his skin bubble and blacken. The shape of him was lost in the dark. And by the time night fell he was nowhere and everywhere. A part of the darkness, chosen and engulfed. Only to go come yesterday morning.
