Let the adventure begin

I just want to run away

pack a bag

full of treasures

long skirts

apples and cheese

canteen of water

gallons of adventure

set off down the road

feet on my pedals

breeze playing a song in my ears

when night falls

tuck into bed

at a sweet lady's house

one who hugs me

claims I am a smart one

just like her grandchild

wake with the sun

set off again

thank the old woman

promise to never forget the way she smiled

follow the river as it winds

towards a lake

ask the man in overalls

overjoyed with his morning catch

where to find a telephone booth

thank him with a smile

full of the wildness of youth

call home

tell of the wonders of the world

apologize for never wanting to come home

for the part of me

that keeps longing for more

wishes to never settle down–

adventure is part of my soul now.
