Moon, May I?

May I just say, dear

You look marvelous next to me.

Dazzling, even, perhaps.

Morning glories hold my heart out to you

So

May I just say,

you are the star

dazzling in the bright abyss I provide.

My love is for you

but you extend perimeters?

We work in opposites

day and night

but I want to see you each day.

I want to see your beauty as you circle

Earth-our friend-

more than dawn and dusk.

You are the light to my life-ironic-

isn't it dear?

Since I am a star,

I am everything you are not,

the exploding day blessing life with vitamin D

that would render you blistering skin across your silver planes.

I don't want to be your downfall,

I fall for you each day so that you can

shine in the sky along with my other star friends.

I will always let you shine brighter than me

(though physics doesn't allow that)

as humans tell tales of your everlasting beauty

through each culture, religion, and idea.

So that is why

The thought of your face drooping from heat and

your craters sinking deeper and your quiet

beauty melting into a somber look

is the reason I try not to become the boiling rage

to you

but instead the one who guides you before

everything else goes dark.

So I will take those parameters

Just so I can see you

at dawn and dusk

till the day

I become nothing more for you

as you are gone and I am gaping.
