never tempt fate

never tempt fate,

when you’re climbing a steep mountain, alone,

the sky is still an aura of black and blue swirls

with dots of stars twinkling in the dead of night,

disregarding the several howls that fill up the silence

and passing over the eerie rustle of the bushes.

never tamper with your destiny,

when you’re driving in your Chevy

one hand on the steering wheel

the other fiddling with the radio’s dial

and ignoring the squeaking and squelching

of the old, rusty car tires that are slowly falling apart.

never play with fire,

a force stronger than life

might pull you into its prison

a trap that’s nearly impossible to get out.

never

tempt

fate…

ten tears that escape from the narrow corners of my eyes

flowing down my cheeks and onto my lap where they melt and disappear

    even my tears have lost.

nine questions scribbled into a diary late at night

  • I’m sorry

I’m sorry that I wasn’t the rings to your Saturn,

I’m sorry that I slipped salt into your sugar,

yet your sugar was bitter, I cried too.

I’m sorry that you never learned to care,

hot, spice-soaked coffee drizzled with a splash of cinnamon

coated with half-melted whipped cream, nestled by the delicate fire,
