Nightlight

I actually wrote this a while ago but never got around to posting it, so some of you from Oh Snap! might remember it :)

Sparkles don’t always shine in the right places,
Rain falls into puddles so that you can walk in what used to be thousands of feet above you,
Socks were made as tight itchy jails for your toes,
And puddles sparkle in the morning sun when you splash through them in bare feet.

Paper cuts hurt more than a bang on solid wood,
One magic pen always hides in a bin of three cent junk,
Desks are useless things for people who are uninspired,
And writing curled up on your bed with a purple inked pen is as sweet as confection sugar.

Darkness is a way of masking the light that’s always there,
That one soft koala toy from your childhood is still waiting for you to come back,
Sore throats hurt more when you’re longing for freedom,
And at night I clutch my koala bear for added relief from my pain.

The ocean is a salty heaven made for me,
My midnight blue swimsuit is still wet and clammy from a twilight swim,
Little crabs poke their heads out of sand dens to remind us that small things are comforting,
And water washes my worries away,
So I let it.
