Ocean Language

The ocean
Calm
Gentle
Soothing
Rhythmic waves slide ashore
Sending a light spray upon all nearby
Little kids squeal with joy
We take a mental photo
When we think of the ocean
This is what we see
Joyful bliss
But while in this bliss we forget
There is more than what meets the eye
Throughout the days
Tourists lay upon the beach
Leaving later that day
But letting wash away
The garbage left behind
An innocent fish
Minding his own business
Gobbles up what looks like food
Later that day
Upon the beach lies that same fish
Dead as a doornail
If you cut him open
You would see
Trash entwined within him
A painful death at that
Every day
This happens a lot
We are murderers
Killing creatures of the deep
Without a second though
However with every wrong
Comes a repercussionStorm clouds compile
Families flee
Strong winds blow the beach clean
Ferocious
Rough
Scary
Waves crash upon the shore
Sending marine life with it
Throwing them repeatedly against the hard wet sand
Lightning strikes
As long as it doesn’t hit the water…
Boom!
It happens
Electricity pulses on the surface
Frying an innocent bird
Who just wanted to rest
People glance from behind curtains
At the raging storm
Children run to family
Dogs hide under tables
Both whimpering
Scared of uncontrollable nature
Few can look beyond their terror
The ones who can
See something spectacular
The strong wind
Hands that reach blindly
Ready to stike with an angry fist
Waves that run towards land
Ready to drown those who disrespect them
The storm clouds
A warning
A reminder
The lightning
A consequence
For whom can’t read the signs
Our earth is trying to tell us
To take better care of it
Warning us of the consequences if we don't
Punishing us for the damage we have already caused
It takes someone special
To see the message
And pass it on

  • Awaiting An Invitation

    Tree limbs dance in
    the breeze of baited breath,
roots threaten to break ground zero.
    time;
    too much
    too little
    only the trees understand
    me

    glass stregthens
    mirrors melt
    clouds converge and darkness reigns

    Sentenced

    I am guilty

    The bars which restrain me
    are but my own fault

    I am guilty

    The lifeless walls
    frozen, unfeeling
yield no give as I fight to break free

    My crimes:
    To want,
    the stars

    Only A Memory

    The wind
brushes my cheek, with a kiss.
    Neck craned, my eyes
    skim the sky in bliss

    The scene before me,
    a canvas to interpret,
I stare, deep within the soul of each star
this game I refuse to forfeit.
