An Ode to Death

A sweet taboo of transfixed fright

A gracious bringer of ends

A reaper of unabating life

You make us new again

You swallow us in cold cruel black

and strip our souls away

We need not fight your final grace

to let ourselves decay

The world is full of takings

Our greed unmatched, unmet

Through rapacity we never think

There's only so much to get

Now the time has come to give

To help refuel the Earth

For that's your goal, your leading cause

To help old things rebirth

So when my life has passed me by

When my esse's spent

I hope you'll smile at passing blooms

And know that's where I went

    Preach about showing it all

To let yourself be bare and raw

    It's just a trend, it's just a phase

You'll forget about in the next few days

I don't want to be a survivor, I don't want to be brave

I don't want to be stronger, I don't want to be saved

I don't want to be tested to see if I'll do it right

I don't want your God to use me to fix your broken life.
