People are books

People are books,
filled with stories to tell,
begging to be heard,
and when you open them,
the words come pouring out,
filling the blank spaces in the air,
filling your mind with the things they have to say,
people are books,
with glue spread thinly along the edge,
holding them together,
and a cover that hides what is inside,
showing only what they want you to know,
people are books,
and over time,
you can see them wearing down,
torn pages,
water stains,
dog ears,
scribbles in the margins,
places where others have left their marks,
for better or worse,
people are books.
