Pizote: Animal

Their eyes are intelligent

Like those of a raccoon

Their black noses, about twice the size of a gum-ball are on

Long snouts, a bit longer than a raccoon’s.

Skinny body, built almost cat-like

A tail, thin, and even longer than a cat’s.

Paws-or, hands, are like a raccoon’s.

I see the way they dig in the dirt

Searching for food.

They climb trees with their legs spread out and fairly flat on the tree

They climb fast, they can climb at least a few feet per second

There are a few of them together, not helping each other,

Just being in a pack.

Maybe it’s cause they don’t want to be alone.

Maybe it’s because they know they’re stronger together.

Maybe because they’re as smart

As

A

Raccoon

It's quiet. Just the rumbling of the car. My friend is asleep next to me, their head on my shoulder. I open the windows. The breeze is nice and cool and rustles my hair. As soon as the window is open, it reveals the sound of crickets.

  • Dear, Canada

    Dear, Canada.

You do not belong to us.

    You never have.

And I really, really hope you never will.

You are your own country, but I know I don’t have to tell you that.

    You already know it.
