poison.

Why do we of ebony darkness receive such poison?

Venom from the ancestors of the bosses of our ancestors.

Fallen from the tree of humanity like an autumn leaf.

Like a cracked soil ground, never to be repaired.

But no forgiveness, just the sole of your shoe as you break us over and over.

But you say you’ve changed, you’re not like the ancestors you speak so highly of.

I beg to differ, you support the aggression targeted at our people.

Police guns, riots, the need to run. Your shoes untied, can’t tie it.

We trip, we fall. Through the crowd we can hear the shots.

We’re not aggressive. Why get violent? We’re not animals.

You treat us like bears. Brown bears? Oh, sorry. You don’t see color.

Now what? You sit, watching the riots on your screen. What does it all mean?

Freedom. It’s all we ask.

Why do we of cracked, torn skin receive such poison?

Imagine a world, imagine a world where you were in love.

    Perhaps that’s already this world.

But, just imagine this love as a crime.

To hold hands with your beloved would get you sent to jail.
