Problematic Domes (still drafting)

(I'd really like some feed back on this part so far :) )

“AAAHHHHH!! HUMANS!!”

A girly scream rang out from a small ways away from where Kate and Mr. Jacks were standing to send the chubby bulldog back into the force field. The tall girl jumped back as her whole body snapped into attack mode.
Kate looked to where the jarring noise came from to find a tall-ish man with wavy, light brown hair clutching the sides of his head with his eyes screwed shut, screeching in fear. He wore a blue dress shirt with a black vest and black bowtie, odd attire for the current woodland setting. However, that was the least odd thing about him. Atop his head he donned a pair of navy blue goat-ish horns, each about 6 or 7 inches long.

Kate was about to attempt to talk to him, thinking if she could calm him down, maybe he could help them. But before she could start, another person ran out of the woods and stood in front of the man protectively with a furious glare on their face. The figure looked almost exactly like the horned man, yet it seemed they were a female. She wore the same outfit as the screaming man behind her, although it was red themed, rather than blue. She also had the same horns as he did, but again red replaced the blue. She muttered something to the one behind her without taking her eyes off of Kate and Mr. Jacks, making him stop screaming. The man from before stood up straighter and clutched his saviors shirt from behind, tears welling in his eyes. The woman then turned back to Kate and her older counterpart.

“Who the hell are you!?” The girl yelled at them. Kate hesitated, thinking of an appropriate answer that didn’t reveal too much about her. While deep in thought, Mr. Jacks beat her to the punch.

“Well, who are you?” The girl in red huffed angrily. She glanced back at the man she was protecting before answering. “I don’t have to tell anyone that. Especially not some low-tier human.” Her eyes narrowed again. “Now, who. The hell. Are you?”

“I-I d-d-don’t think they c-can h-hurt us Es,” said a small voice. The horned girl turned her head to the man clutching her shirt, her expression softening. “They’re j-just h-h-humans, I d-don’t think they c-can do m-much…” She sighed, defeated.

“Fine.” She looked back to the very confused humans standing close to the translucent blue dome. “The name’s Esper, he’s my brother, Marcus. Mind answering the original question?” Mr Jacks looked to Kate for confirmation. She nodded hesitantly, thinking they might as well. However she still had a bad feeling about these entities.

“Of course. You can call me Mr. Jacks.” he said. Esper narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

“And I’m Kate,” said the tall girl. She did her best to peek around the clearly irritated Esper, catching an odd look on Marcus's face. He seemed to be thinking about something distressing, the way his brow was furrowed and his mouth was twisted into a worried frown. Kate didn’t see much more, as Esper caught her standing and blocked her view of the timid man.

“Tell me,” said Mr. Jacks, “Do you two know anything about the force fields?” Esper looked confused. Marcus whispered to her, her expression changing to indicate she understood.

“Oh, you mean the domes? Yeah ‘course we know about them, why do you care?”

“Es I don’t th-think they u-u-understand wh-why there are d-domes,” Marcus added quietly, “I b-believe he was asking ab-b-bout why we h-have them…” Mr. Jacks looked at him, about to thank him for clarifying why he squeaked and ducked back behind his sister. “EEEEE! I’m s-s-sorry! I c-could d-d-d-definitely b-b-be wrong!” Esper glared at Mr. Jacks. As he attempted to correct the situation, Kate took the time to really study the twins.

They looked almost identical, but that was to be expected. Both of their hair was cut short, reaching about the middle of their necks, both had long, pointed ears, and they wore nearly identical outfits as well. Then again, there were many differences that Kate could spot. First of all, their hair, while the same in length and color, seemed to have different textures. Both were wavy, but Marcus's looked to be curlier than his sisters. Each of their bangs fell over a different eye. Esper’s fell over her right eye, Marcus's on his left, so only one eye was visible on each twin.

Marcus’s visible eye was milk chocolate brown, a soft, sweet mix of color that threatened to pull you in forever if you held his nervous gaze. Esper on the other hand, her visible eye was a bright, crimson red that matched her fiery personality. Kate inferred that both twins experienced heterochromia on opposite eyes, further fulfilling their aesthetic opposites attract dynamic.

“So your race put them there? With what intent?” asked Mr. Jacks. Esper rolled her eyes.

“Why do you have to say it like that? ‘Your race’, have ya’ never seen a demon before?” Esper explained as if she hadn’t just told them they were standing in front of a supernatural creature, “We put them there to keep you in place while we built, now you’re kinda just taking up space. So anytime you’re out of a shelter you’ll disappear after a good amount of time.”

“S-sooner or l-later,” continued Marcus shyly, wiping his eyes, “Th-that rule won’t apply t-to shelters and you’ll all d-dissap-p-pear…”

“Disappear?” said Kate, “What does that mean?” Esper answered with a very unnerving calm to her voice.

“Y’know, poof. Gone. Cease to exist. It’s like death, but worse.” She gestured to herself and Marcus, “This is death. What comes after is essentially nothingness. You’re not sent anywhere or anything you just don’t exist anymore.” Kate took a step back, realizing what happened to all those innocent people who didn’t know about the dangers of being out in the open.

“N-no...You’re just going to kill us off?! Th-that can’t be…” Marcus stuck his head around his sister and put a finger up.

“E-excuse me, I-I-I th-though I sh-should p-p-point out that w-we’re against k-killing you all off…” he shuffled further out from behind Esper, now gripping her hand rather than her shirt. He brushed his bangs aside, only for them to fall right back where they were, exposing his left eye to be a deep beachy blue like Kate had thought. “W-we like it b-b-better where we came from, but we were f-forced to come here because of the fusion p-p-probability…”

“The what?” asked Kate. Marcus only shook his head.

“It’s n-n-not important…” he said, sadness tinged his voice, “A-anyways-” Marcus was cut off by a loud sound ringing from behind him. It was shrill, but captivating. It wanted you to listen, even though it hurt. Kate and Mr. Jacks covered their ears. “O-oh n-n-no…”
