“Proud” to be a woman in America

I am proud to be a woman in America because I just went grocery shopping and my pads cost more than my groceries
Proud to be a woman in America because I have to clutch my car keys whenever I’m walking down the street
Proud to be a woman because I can’t use the stairs in a parking garage for fear of being attacked
Proud to be a woman because I can’t show skin in public or I’ll get cat called, or worse
Proud to be a woman because male cashiers gives me a look when I place my tampons on the counter
Proud to be a woman because I can’t have a conversation with a man without him staring at my chest
Proud to be a woman because I have to pay $.75 to not bleed out in public 
Proud to be a woman because I earn $.83 to a man’s dollar
Proud to be a woman because old men think they have the right to call me sweetie
Proud to be a woman because male customers talk down to me at work
Proud to be a woman because I have to tell stories of men harassing me like they’re jokes
Proud to be a woman because I have to name three songs if I want to wear a band T-shirt
Proud to be a woman because I had to fight for all my rights while you sat there and got them given to you
Proud to be a woman because I wasn’t allowed to carry chairs in elementary school
Proud to be a woman because every time a man walks by me I flinch
Proud to be a woman because I’m always a little scared no matter where I am
Proud to be a woman because I have to carry pepper spray on my lanyard
Proud to be a woman because I have to look under my car before I get into it
Proud to be a woman because I have to be nice to men no matter what
Proud to be a woman because America sucks
