The current ongoing erasing of the rights of marginalized groups in society deeply affects the people all around, as well as myself.
I, a queer mexican-american teenage girl, struggle with body image issues as well as issues with my menstrual cycle. Because of these issues, I feel the weight of the current political and social shifts of the country in very personal ways.
The current president of the United States police seems to threaten the progress we have all fought so hard for, this makes our lives more uncertain and difficult for everyone apart of these marginalized groups.
For me, these issues hit rather close to home. Struggling with body image issues and being queer is already a daily challenge; there’s this constant fear that one day, my body and identity won’t be recognized or respected anymore.
When policies target marginalized communities - whether it’s restricting LGBTQIA+ rights, threats to easy access to reproductive health care, or attempts to suppress Native American and POC communities - it feels like a constant attack on my very existence, as well as thousands, if not millions of others! Honestly, it’s as if the government doesn’t care and is turning its back on vulnerable groups, which is making it harder for us to feel safe, feel valued, feel heard!
