salt cube

i can only imagine the salt of the sea and

the schools of tuna that end up in my bowl

they swim through the eternity that melts into the sky

surviving the harsh summers

mating through the comforting winters

each year, we see the sky fade into a budding pink

shimmering down on the crashing waves of my heart

i am too, like you

navigating through the crowds of color

seeking the soft beat of the wind against my chest

yearning for the flap of the earth’s wings

oh, i too

swallow down my bloodless ancestors

the ones who lived their first lives

i pat my warm stomach and lay in my own reef

waiting to explore the endless

                                  sea
