The Seconds, They Tick By

Finally found the time to write a few Christmas poems XD. School applications are stressful.

It’s Christmas,
who would’ve known?
It’s been a year,
I was shut in my home.

I remember sitting there,
counting down the days,
thirteen days, twelve days,
eleven ‘till Christmas.

Set up a countdown,
stare at each second,
cheer every passing minute,
ten days ‘till Christmas.

Put up the Christmas tree,
hang up all the ornaments,
pull out the stockings,
nine days ‘till Christmas.

Hang up the lights,
an inflatable Santa,
glowing in the night,
eight days ‘till Christmas.

Plan Secret Santa’s,
drag my parents to the mall,
buy all their presents,
seven days ‘till Christmas.

Write a letter to Santa,
thank him for his gifts,
promise I’ll be nice,
six days ‘till Christmas.

Yell and scream in excitement,
send out my wishlist,
hope I’ll get what I want,
five days ‘till Christmas.

Sit at the sofa,
watch a movie,
laugh with my family,
four days ‘till Christmas.

Walk in the neighborhood,
compare decorations,
laugh at the fake elves,
three days ‘till Christmas.

Party with friends,
exchange the presents,
eat some pizza,
two days ‘till Christmas.

Gather with family,
exchange some more gifts,
laugh and talk and play,
one day ‘till Christmas.

Now it’s eight days ‘till Christmas,
eight days, fourteen hours,
forty minutes, seven seconds.
They keep ticking by.

I haven’t decorated yet.
I’ve forgotten Christmas was near.
Stay safe, that’s what’s important,
no parties or gatherings.

Remember high school applications,
schedule all the interviews,
study for midterms,
who has time for Christmas?

It’s been a year since last Christmas,
365 days, maybe more.
I keep forgetting, that all the seconds,
they keep ticking by.

Yes, I see the sun. Nice.
No, I don’t feel its warmth.
Yes, I sense the wind. Cool.
No, I don’t take pleasure in the breeze.
Yes, I can see the view. Pretty.
    No, I’m not delighted.
