I've always been fascinated that since the moment I was born there had always been cars driving, birds chirping, and people talking. Every second of my life, this unrelenting continuum of sound and movement somewhere out in the world. But what would make that all stop? Even for a moment, what would make every car freeze in its tracks, every bird halt its tune, and most importantly, what would make the world fall silent, even for a moment, from the chatter of man?
That theoretical question was one that I hoped would never be answered, unfortunately fate doesn't often take your hopes into consideration when inflicting its will. In my few unfortunate encounters with fate it had never been kind to me, but I can't say that I could chalk up this misfortune to my own personal karma coming back to haunt me. In all honesty, I don't believe any amount of bad luck could surpass the atrocity that was slowly draping the world into darkness. The most astonishing thing was not the impending end of the Earth, but the silence that accompanied it. No car dared to continue its journey, nor a single bird offered its tune, and not one voice echoed through the frightened planet. All that could be heard was the low rumble that would soon lead to the world's eternal silence.
