Sometimes it’s different,
But it’s always the same.
I’d try to explain but you would shake your head and tell me that I’m an old woman.
Sometimes I’m here,
But I’m always there.
I’ve tried to concentrate on my homework, but I’m usually drifting off to a bird’s nest on Coney Island…
Sometimes I like it,
And sometimes I’m scared.
Fear is cold and it is lonely
Like a shaved rat in winter
Trying to make a living.
Sometimes it’s hard,
But it’s never easy.
There’s times I’d like to watch the clock and see if I can see the hour hand moving
(I swear I saw it once.)
Sometimes I crane my neck and think about cranes,
With their long necks that are probably never twisted.
How ridiculous this world is.
But it’s always the same.
