I wasn’t always

But they voted away my voice

And my rights

And my choice

When will America finally be great?

Once we get rid of the Mexicans?

Who cares about shot up schools

So long as we have separate water fountains

Why don’t we just go back

To burning women at the pyre

Just because they had the courage

To stand up against the fire

Fine

But when I’m touched again

There will be no way 

To hide the evidence

And I bet that

Even though I’ve birthed the proof

They’ll let him off the hook

Because of his youth

They care about the lives

Of white boys who rape

But think that black boys and girls

Should go back to being slaves

I’m speechless

But I’ve got so much to say

And you can vote away my voice

But my writing will stay

I can be mute

I’ve done it before

But I’ll fight for change
