i once saw the face of god in the stars
which grinned as it opened its mouth wide
and its dust cloaked the earth
and its light drummed upon the ground
as it strummed the weary lyre
in its hands.

out of the puddle of saliva rolls a pearl.
it dissolves.
what does it want from me?
it slithers away, back to its damp home.
In the midst of a city,
a tower stands,
its size beyond all comprehension,
and all round it,
there is a great spiral staircase,
swarmed with people all trying to reach the top,
which no one has.
The circus masters release the red beast,
its mane flowing, great fangs bared,
ready to take a bite out of the audience,
