Those who come next

those who will come next
should cherish the time they get
for the minutes move faster
closer to the end

those who will come next
should seek out the kindness and grace
i once found
because you never know who
will help

those who will come next
should forgive and forget
but not hold someone to a perfect standard
for they are as equally flawed as you may be

those who will come next
should remember those who came before
even when we may not know best
we still know everything
you don't

those who will come next
will sit here
years from now
in our spots
with their friends
and they will tell those who come after
what I wish I could say to them right now

  • What is left

[This is a reposted edited version of a previous poem of mine.]

when all we have is spent–

    what will we have left?

    people once before us–

  • down the street

    i walked down the street
the streets i once used to know
filled with regrets and heavy with burdens
    of what once happened here

    i walked down the street
    a block or so down

  • Dear god, am I real?

I believe in god even though I may know he doesn’t exist

I know the mountains were not formed by him

Instead it is the science in the world

The reason we are here in this moment
