too far to hold

I catch a glimpse.

from afar,

the shine of his silky hair in the golden sunlight

his expression unreadable,

as if he's pondering something he'd never tell a soul.

he's magic, for someone else to catch in their hands like a firefly till he no longer glows.

is his heart forever dull?

numbed to a pain so constant it made him forget he can feel?

watching from the bleachers, I see him wrap another in a soft embrace,

giving him the time,

and the shoulder to cry on,

but who listens to the listener?

I would.

He drapes his arm round the other man's shoulder, shielding his tear stained face from the crowd,

and looks back,

I look forward

and for a moment, I think he knows that someone,

somewhere

is willing to listen,

if he's willing to look.
