After a hundred miles, we finally made it to the Fryeburg Fair in Maine. We encountered horrible smells, the closer we got the worst they were. Even the sun was against us, beaming down on us, making us hotter and hotter. Not to mention the bruises and cuts that we got, and barely enough food to keep us going. However, through all of this we still managed to get there all still in one piece. You might wonder why we would put ourselves through that pain and suffering. It’s because my family loves to go to the fair and have gone every year. Since we live in Vermont, and it’s in Maine, it’s a long way to travel but in the end it is so worth it.
At the fair, we love to see all the cows, pigs, sheep, horses, and all the displays that everyone worked so hard on. The smell of the fair food wafts over to us, reminding us that it is time to eat. We have to choose between sweet cotton candy, fried dough, candied apples, and savory, mouth watering cheeseburgers. We hurry over to catch the horse races. As we are watching the races, family and friends wander over to greet us. Most of them we haven’t seen in a while. It’s a nice treat to get to go. I am grateful that I get to go.
The way back home is not as bad as the way there because we are all tired. At that point we are used to the smell on my sister’s smelly feet, the sun is setting and we are all stuffed from all the fair food we ate. Finally, after traveling another hundred miles to get home we park the car and get out. Oh, did I forget to mention that we drove to Maine, with the hot sun on our faces and the car heating up and making my sister’s feet smell? The bruises are from my sister and I fighting over the front seat. The cuts are from me trying to color and getting a paper cut. The worst part is not being able to reach the snacks in the back of the car. A hundred miles is a long way to travel in the car with two kids.
