The humans had come
To finish what they had begun
Us trees we couldn’t run
They took out their saws
Without a pause
And started chopping
Without stopping
We trees cried
We couldn’t hide
We pleaded
Please! Please stop!
But they kept going chop, chop, chop
We pleaded
Please stop! Us trees belong here too!
We belong here just as much as you!
Why should we stop?
Shouted the humans from the treetops
Because!
We trees cried
If we are all gone
Who’s going to keep you cool from now on?
The humans laughed and yelled
We don’t need cool air!
Why should we care?
And kept chop, chop, chopping
If you cut us all down
The trees cried from all around
Who will give you food from our branches?
We’ll take our chances
Said the humans
And they kept chop, chop, chopping
Please!
We trees tried one last time
If you cut us all down who will make your oxygen to breathe?
The humans stopped
And dropped
Their saws
They finally understood
That without trees they would
Not be alive
Or able to survive
We are sorry trees!
Cried the humans on their knees
We are sorry!
They picked up their saws
And left without a further pause
The trees blew in the breeze
Finally at ease
To finish what they had begun
Us trees we couldn’t run
They took out their saws
Without a pause
And started chopping
Without stopping
We trees cried
We couldn’t hide
We pleaded
Please! Please stop!
But they kept going chop, chop, chop
