Trying to Fly

Take the risks that scare you

Not because

There is no risk

But because

You may shrink into yourself

If you don’t grow yourself.

I can not promise

That I am the best place

To be

That everything went well that

I do not know humiliation

And sadness.

I can promise

That I know what lighting looks like

And I’ve made friendship bracelets

Often for myself

And I know the way muddy bloody salty drops

Run down my face

And I know the way my eyes crinkle

At the edges eyelashes barely touching.

So jump off the cliff

Not because you know how to fly

But because you want to figure it out.
