Holy shit, we did it
89 days of 15-hour nights that we survived
The many miles in many layers trudged through many inches of snow are behind us
The gray on the ground and in the sky and in you, so thick you can taste, has been elevated to yellow
And after the 128,160 minutes that you and I withstood, winter surrenders, and we revel in the victories of spring.
I wish I could go through a breakup.
I want to write sad poems
And listen to sad music
And cry in the dark
And scream into my pillow
Do you remember those September evenings we spent together in the playground?
The shiny rock we put in our pockets and the ugly little rocks that got lodged in our heels.
I am a patriot and a proud American, and nothing will change that
I will never cease to believe in the idea of America and the potential this nation holds
