Wait a Little Longer, Moon

Sometimes, fall is “Ribs” by Lorde. It’s the Sun creeping through the sky, giving us a reason to cherish the moment. It’s gooey pecan pie dolloped with vanilla ice cream. It’s riding bikes like when we were kids, accompanied by full belly laughs and scraped knees. It’s climbing over chain-link fences, huffing and puffing as our nails are caked with dirt. It’s climbing apple trees, hoping the Moon can wait a little longer before the world goes dark.

Dark.

Sometimes, fall is “Glimpse of Us” by Joji. It’s being lost in reverie, not knowing when to wake back up. It’s remembering our post-shopping “fashion shows”. It’s finding the old Mason jars we used to catch fireflies. It’s cooking kubba hammouth and garnishing it with mint, your favorite.

Fall is Sun and Moon. It’s Light and Darkness.

Fall is uniquely ours to savor.

    Maybe you’re still here

    Here in the fall breeze

The pink and gray mittens you bought me

    Clutched but not worn

    You're still here with me

The Ferrero Rocher you gifted me

    Time and time again
