The silence is too loud
Unnatural
Where you can hear the static
Prickling at the hairs in your ear
The sharp twinges never fading
It’s funny
Two minutes ago you wanted nothing but silence
I guess you get what you wish for
The static drowns out what once echoed
Those sounds primordial now
You wished too hard
Too fast
Too much
You want to take it back
Life is funny that way
You leave the pungent smell of sterility
The contrasting sounds of birth and death
You walk
The silence now a low hum
Natural

I've never attended to a sick loved one in a hospital waiting room, yet I felt that I was there, experiencing that anxious anticipation alongside you. There is a sparseness to this piece that works to its advantage, adding to the "sterility" you describe.
