why ban words
when they speak the truth
i know our world has hardships
that we must overcome
i know some see things
in a different light
but when a child
sees a book
on how a boy
loves another boy
how a girl
loves another girl
how a child
does not feel at home
in the body they are born in
how having darker skin
is not that different after all
your actions of banning books
that explain the hardships
of our world
to little people
they grow up unable to make their own choices
those little minds can't choose
who they want to be
because their worlds are shaped
by your bias against
those who are different than you.
