Winter Skin

The season's vulnerability
Giving in
In innocent ways

Peeling skin
Reveals red ribbons
Networks of cross stitches
Bleeding, scabbing over
Begin again

This snow soaks it in
And round plums ripened
You kin

Your limbs each a cerise
A body of one's own in the cold
Twitching in the freezing
In the numbness that already exists
Though seeming to settle in winter
Craving warmth by fire'
As if human
