My hands find grip against the rough piney bark, sap sticking my fingers together as I reach up pulling myself into it's limbs. My wrist blinks and throbs with pain as I climb onto the nearest bow and breathe the forest air. I crouch on the branch resting my chin on my knees, the softest light of dawn meeting me, orange and pink spreading into the navy sky. I feel warmth exploring the farthest reaches of my body. My eyes drop back to the forest floor, pine needles basking in the morning sun. Then my gaze falls on a family of squirels racing each other along the branches of the next tree over, bushy tails flicking as they chatter madly at one another, toting with them acorns that push their cheeks to the limits.
I stand holding the massive trunk of the tree to support myself peering at the ruts of bark running from the base of the tree to its shaggy green height, my breath coming in puffs as my eyes wander to about ten feet above my head. A flash breaks through the as the sun peeks through the green my eyes widen as I realize what it is. I scramble up the branches, clumsily almost slipping, before righting myself and staring up. A bright white light streams through a notch the center of the tree. I thrust my hand inside, my fingers brushing against a smooth glass like surface, knocking me back pain blazing up my arm as I fall swooping light as air before landing lightly on the soft pine needle bedding. Beaming against my skin is a third light.
Suddenly I hear a rasp and look up to see a winged fox, eyes bright staring deep into mine. All goes black, finally the pain in my wrist subsiding as my whole being falls through an abys of nothingness. My eyes close one last time, my consciousness leaving me in final peace.
