It was early Monday morning. I got up and went to get a drink of water. But when I went down stairs, I heard a noise I’ve never heard before. I went into my mother’s room to wake her up because I also heard a knocking of pans onto the ground. But when I went in there, she wasn’t there. Well, she was but when I went over to her because I thought she was still sleeping, I rolled her over and I saw that her eyes were missing and the sockets were bleeding. I screamed so loud I woke up my brother, Ryker.
“Cat, what’s the problem?” Ryker asked very politely.
“S-s-she’s dead.” I stuttered. I came in here to wake her up, but when I rolled her over I saw that.”
“Mom sleeping? What’s so scary about that?”
“No. You don’t understand. I would tell you, b-b-but I’d rather show you.”
I brought him over to Mom’s bedside and I showed him.
“OH MY GOD!!!!!” he screamed. “How did this happen? Did you see anyone when you were coming in to wake her up?”
“N-n-no,” I managed to get out still shaken up. “But I did hear a strange noise coming from downstairs. I also heard pots and pans clanging down in the kitchen.”
“Come with me,” Ryker said confidently.
“To find out what the noise was that you heard,”he exclaimed. “There’s no time to waste. We have to find out what the noise was and soon.”
So, I did as he asked. We went downstairs and when we got in the kitchen, I saw my middle school math teacher. “Mr. Calvin!! What are you doing in my house?”
“Oh. Hey, Cat. I didn’t know that you lived here. And did you see the surprise that I gave you?” Mr. Calvin said with a smirk.
“W-w-why? I thought that I was your star student. But now you killed MY MOTHER. I can’t go back to your class ever again. I’m going to ask if I can transfer classes. I’m going to go live with my dad if I have to. DO YOU HEAR ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!” I screamed in anger.
“Cat, calm down. Just breat-”
“NO. OUR MOTHER JUST DIED AND YOU WANT ME TO CALM DOWN? ALSO, MY MATH TEACHER KILLED HER!!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW TO CALM DOWN! I’VE NEVER SEEN YOU BE CALM! EVEN WHEN CAMERON DIED! HE WAS MY FRIEND AND NOW MOM’S GONE JUST LIKE HIM! SO, DON’T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!” I shouted.
“WHY SHOULD YOU BE ALLOWED TO YELL AT ME WHEN I’M THE ELDEST HERE?” Ryker yelled at the top of his lungs.
“Ryker. Calm down. It’s not you lost her forever. She’s ----”
“SHE’S DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU! NOW WE’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO SEE HER EVER AGAIN! WHY WOULD YOU BE SO MEAN AND DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT? HOW CAN YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELF AFTER MURDERING SOMEONE SO DEAR TO ME AND MY BROTHER?” I screamed as loud as I could.
When I walked away, Ryker followed me. Neither of us allowed Mr. Calvin to finish his sentence. But when we both walked away, he just followed us because he wanted to warn us about something. “WAIT!!!!!!” he screamed as he was running after us. “WAIT!! I HAVE TO WARN YOU OF SOMETHING!!! I ALSO HAVE AN EXPLANATION FOR WHY I KILLED Norah!!!!!”
We stopped as soon as we heard that name. “WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT YOU NEED TO TELL US?!?!?!?!” I screamed. “WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM US?! MONEY?!?! WELL, SORRY THAT WE HAVE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE, BUT WE DON’T HAVE ANY! WHY DON’T YOU JUST WALK AWAY AND GO KILL SOMEONE ELSE’S MOTHER AND LEAVE US ALONE???!!!”
“IT’S NOT ABOUT MURDER! IT’S ABOUT THE PATH THAT YOU NEED TO GO ONTO!” Mr. Calvin sounded serious. “PLEASE! YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO ME!” He kept walking towards us and kept on telling us that we needed to go on a different path. What was he talking about? We are on the path that we need to be on. Plus, if he meant that we are on the path that we are going to go and commit suicide, then he better think twice.
“Fine then,” he said finely catching up to us. “I won’t tell you why I killed Norah. All will remain a mystery.” he said mysteriously.
“What do you mean?” Ryker said.
"Oh. You don't know what I mean?" he asked like it was a mystery. "Well then, I'll just have to explain."
