Retrace Your Steps

The path seems darker than before.
The rain seems to shimmer and pour.
The gates seem to open as you walk along the path.
You didn’t seem to notice the sociopath.
Your lover stands awaiting your arrival.
This is a choice of survival.
Should you get your sword ready?
Hands high, stay steady.
Say the words already.
You look at him concerned.
The world seems to have turned.
His lover has finally returned.
You yell and scream.
Look what you've done to my dream.
This love is not the war.
What are you searching for?
Are you forgiven or forgotten?

What is this storm that you are caught in?
Your anger washed away in the wind.
The truth has gone out of mind.
You have been too blind.
You forgave him the minute he spoke.
Not realizing that his heart is never broke.
He always tries to take control of you.
But does he know what he put you through?
He struggles with emotions,
Or to care for you at all.
But his stare somehow always makes you feel small.
His controlling game has taken over you.
You don’t know what is true.
The time seems to fly.
As the years and months pass by.
The love that you were given.
Oh, how you have forgiven. The path seems clearer than before.
The sun seems to shine even more.
The gates will never be opened again.
The cheater lied and left in the rain.
He has nothing left to gain.
I don't need to hide.
I know there is truth behind their pride.
He will never see mercy from me.

The words he once said haunt me.
Why was I so carefree?
I don’t know if I can make it out alive,
So I might as well not try.
He has hurt me more than anyone has ever before.
He made me fall and cry on the floor.
He makes his play in the game.
His words always stay the same.
He asks for forgiveness but I think not.
He thinks I have already forgot.
Our love is war.
There is nothing left for you, go out the door.
He hurt me so much, why let him again?

People say to forget and forgive.
But I’ll never forgive the things he did.
It’s not like he has anything to give.
I’ve been caught up in his storm of lies.
It might end up being my demise.
Thinking everything was the truth.
What happened to our story of youth?
Though in the end,
The road began to bend.
I started to learn his little games,
And how he played his cards.
I will never forgive you for the things you did to me.
I understood your games.
Oh, how I have forgotten.
Thank you for reading! This poem was created by me
and one of my friends. She wrote the italicized line, enjoy! :)

I wouldn’t go that way if I were you.

The maze is too good to be true.

Magical creatures from here and there.

    Enter if you really dare.

    You’ll lose track of time.

    You’ll soon begin to climb.
