If Smoke Was a Solid

There are several kinds of smoke,
Some veil us from going about our daily routines:
The smoke of a
Cigarette
Stubbed against a piece of furniture.
The smoke of a forest fire 
Which took the innocent lives
Of much wildlife and vegetation
Not forgetting the shocking 3,704 deaths of human beings
As of 2019.
The smoke of an ancient flame
Which prevents the beholder
From a steady lifestyle.
Then there are other types of smoke
That make positive memories:
The smoke of a fire that we huddled around roasting 
Our vegan marshmallows
That crisp August night I remember so 
So clearly.
The smoke of the fire you started to keep us warm and cozy
During the cold Vermont winter.
If smoke is the outcome of a burning object,
Then what is the fire?
